Do I have a simple and easy breakfast vegan waffle recipe you can make at home in 1 bowl in 20mins? Yes I do! These vegan waffles are simple and easy to make, yet so soft and fluffy.
This recipe makes about 8 to 10 small waffles. If you are look for an easy vegan waffle recipe, this one is for you!
I don’t know in other countries, but in Japan you can find waffles in a packet in shops, buy one and tear the packet and eat straight from it. They are coated in sugar to make it extra delicious and taste simple and quite handy when it comes to having them as a snack. Simplicity is the best way to express waffles in Japan I guess.
Although I cannot have them now as these contain dairy and eggs, I used to love one of those waffles. So I thought I would make it vegan and as simple and easy to make at home!
How simple are these vegan waffles?
So as my first published waffle recipe, I wanted to make something super simple and easy to make, like the ones I used to love. This vegan waffle recipe uses these basic ingredients: Flour, sugar, vegan butter and soy milk. And some little extra ingredients like salt and vanilla extract. Thats it!
Most of the ingredients are already in your cupboard and it takes one bowl to whip up, a waffle is ready in just 20mins. How simple and quick is that! And most important, it’s delicious.
Which waffle maker do you use?
I used this Yabano Waffle Maker. This was a gift as my first waffle maker ever and I’ve used this for the past 2 years with many success of lovely waffles! This waffle maker can make 2 waffles at a time, is super easy to use as well as easy to clean afterwards.
It also comes with a hot sandwich plate and grill plate, so very versatile, 3 in 1! Woohoo. My kitchen is not big but this waffle maker is slim so it doesn’t take up too much space which I also love about.
Can I use oil like coconut oil instead of vegan butter?
For a short answer, yes you can! However, I prefer to use vegan butter as it gives the buttery taste and flavour that the waffles I used to eat have. Some recipes call for vegetable oil such as canola oil and it will totally work too. The flavour will be quite blunt as it would just be flour, sugar and refined oil, so if you are using vegetable oil I recommend you to dress them up with some flavourful toppings like maple syrup or molasses, for instance.
Can I store them in the freezer?
Absolutely! In fact, I encourage you to store them in the freezer. Why? Freezing them makes a super quick and delicious breakfast whenever you fancy a waffle!
Put them in an airtight container, store in the freezer and when you want a quick and delicious breakfast, pop one or two waffles in the toaster and voila! Breakfast is served.
They will maintain the texture and the flavour for up to 2-3 months:)
What is the best way to eat these vegan waffles?
If you are like me who loves simple taste of waffles, you can coat both sides of the waffles lightly in sugar and eat it as a snack or take them with you to school, work or really anywhere.
If you have more time and fancy a bit more of nicer waffles over the weekend, dress them with your choice of sweetener like maple syrup, molasses, etc. and some fresh fruits, nuts and seeds.
In the pictures, I dressed my waffles with my melty delicious vegan caramel sauce and some blueberries, bananas and walnuts. The choice is limitless!

Vegan waffle – Simple and easy
What you need:
- Set the waffle maker according to the manufacture’s instruction to heat up in advance. Be careful and don’t touch the plate and burn yourself while preparing the batter!
- Mix the soy milk and apple cider vinegar to make vegan butter milk. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt with a large whisker to combine well.
- Add in the soy milk mixture, vegan butter and vanilla extract and mix gently with the same whisker until just combined. It is ok to have some little flour lumps left in the batter, don’t worry:)
- Scoop the batter with a little ladle and pour into the prepared waffle maker. Cook according to the manufacturer’s instruction.
- Repeat step 5 until you use up all the batter.
- Dress them with caramel sauce, maple syrup, fresh fruits, nuts and seeds, the choice is yours! Enjoy.

Vegan waffles - Simple and easy
- Waffle maker
- 2 cups (220g) plain flour
- 1/4 cup (35g) organic cane sugar
- 1tsp baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 1 cup (250ml) soy milk
- 1tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup(100g) melted vegan butter and little more for frying
- 1tsp vanilla extract
- Set your waffle maker accordingly to the instruction to heat up in advance. Please be careful and don't touch and burn yourself while preparing the waffle butter!
- Mix together the soy milk and apple cider vinegar to make vegan butter milk. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Stir well to combine.
- Add in the soy milk mixture, vegan butter and vanilla extract and stir very gently with the same whisker until just combined. It is ok to have some little lumps of flour left, don't worry:)
- Scoop the batter with a small ladle and pour in the waffle maker. Cook accordingly to the instruction.
- Repeat the step 5 until you use up all the batter.
- Coat them in sugar or drizzle some vegan caramel sauce or maple syrup, top with fruits, enjoy your own creative waffles:)
